Rules of Conduct

By using this site, you signify your agreement to these Rules of Conduct (the “Rules”).  If you disagree with any of the Rules, do not use this site.  The Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (“BIRA-IASB”) may modify the Rules at any time, so please check for changes when you use this site. 

Purpose of the site

This site is designed to be a general resource on, as well as an access point to, the Space Environment Information System (“SPENVIS”).  SPENVIS is an engineering Operational Software of the European Space Agency (“ESA”) maintained and operated by BIRA-IASB.  BIRA-IASB is a governmental research centre depending on the Belgian Federal Science Policy. It is located at Ringlaan 3 Avenue Circulaire, 1180 Brussels (Belgium).

You agree to use this site in a responsible way taking into account that SPENVIS is a centralized system used by a whole community. 

Availability and disclaimers

BIRA-IASB commits itself to provide access to this site and to maintain its content on a best effort basis.  BIRA-IASB does not guarantee that this site will be continuously available. 

Neither ESA nor BIRA-IASB nor the model and data providers could be held responsible for the contents or the content accuracy of this site.  It is your responsibility to verify that the provided data are appropriate for your application.

ESA owns all Intellectual Property Rights of the SPENVIS software and documentation.  All the material of the Site (pages, concepts, help files, documentation, etc.), except the models developed by other institutions, is the property of ESA.  You should not copy (except for personal use) or sell this material without the permission of either BIRA-IASB or ESA.  In absence of specific agreements, you should use this site only for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. 

All publications and presentations using data obtained from this site should properly acknowledge the service.  Please send a reprint of, or a reference to, such publications to the SPENVIS project manager (E. De Donder, BIRA-IASB, Ringlaan 3, B-1180 Brussel, Belgium). 

Secure areas of the site

Certain parts of the Site are password protected and require a valid authentication.  Entering these parts are subject to the Terms and Conditions listed under https://spenvis.oma.be/conditions.php

Personal information

BIRA-IASB collects anonymous or aggregated information of a non-personal nature, such as your browser type, IP address and operating system.  BIRA-IASB does not gather any personal information unless it is provided on a voluntary basis. 

Prohibited uses

You agree not to use this site:

  • in a manner that violates any local, state, national, foreign, or international law or regulation ;
  • to stalk, harass, or harm another individual ;
  • to interfere with or disrupt this site or servers connected to this site ;
  • to attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of this site or any other accounts or computer systems connected to this site, whether through hacking or password mining. 

 

SPENVIS is developed by a consortium led by the Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy for ESA's Space Environments and Effects Section through its General Support Technology Programme
